Independent practice in Jupiter Florida is looking for an experienced veterinary technician. Qualifications include:

1. Education

  • High School Diploma: A high school diploma or GED is the foundational requirement. 
  • AVMA-Accredited Program: You must complete a 2-year associate’s degree program in veterinary technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). 

2. Hands-on Training 

  • Clinical Experience: Your program will include hands-on training, and you’ll complete an externship to gain practical experience in animal handling, assisting in surgeries, and providing patient care.

3. Credentialing Exam 

  • Pass the VTNE: After completing your education, you must pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).

4. State Licensure 

  • Apply for Licensure: Once you pass the VTNE, you apply for licensure, certification, or registration based on the requirements of the state where you plan to work.

5. Skills & Qualities

  • Compassion and Empathy: Essential for providing care to animals and dealing with owners. 
  • Strong Communication: Necessary for effective teamwork and clear communication with pet owners. 
  • Attention to Detail: Crucial for accurate record-keeping and executing procedures precisely. 
  • Physical Stamina: You’ll be on your feet a lot and may need to handle large or unruly animals. 
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
